Community Leaders in Durham Region Host CAMH One Brave Night for Mental Health™

PICKERING, May 8, 2019 – This Friday, May 10th, community leaders from across Durham Region will be coming together at the Pickering Town Centre to host a One Brave Night for Mental Health™, in partnership with CAMH and CAREA Community Health Centre.

The annual fundraiser challenges Canadians to give up one evening to inspire hope, fight stigma and raise money for those suffering from mental illness.

“All of us know someone in our community who has struggled with a mental health issue,” says Wendy Mohammed, co-founder of Team Brave #Endstigma. “This is the fourth year in a row we are creating an awareness about mental health and sending the message that no one needs to suffer alone.”

The event has garnered incredible attention from community partners and sponsors, including CAREA, the Pickering Town Centre, Graymatter Marketing Solutions Inc./Move Media, Oshawa Escape Rooms, Tonya McIntyre RE/MAX Hallmark First Group Realty and Jack Astor’s Bar and Grill in Pickering. Oshawa Escape Rooms will be building a custom escape room for the event, which will take place at the Pickering Town Centre from 1-9 p.m.

Throughout the afternoon and evening community leaders will take the stage to show their support and share their stories. Special guests will include Celina Caesar-Chavannes, Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan and Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter, among other dignitaries.

Between 1-4 p.m., the public is invited to stop in for a “charitea” (charity + tea) and speak with mental health counsellors, community leaders and sponsors. Starting at 5 p.m., local performers, speakers and artists will share their talents. All proceeds from the event will be split between CAMH and CAREA.
